The upcoming WNBA draft is generating considerable excitement, particularly with predictions surrounding a talented center from France. As the league evolves, teams are eyeing international prospects, and one name that has emerged as a potential game-changer is Dominique Malonga.

At 6-foot-6, Malonga is being compared to NBA sensation Victor Wembanyama, which adds to the anticipation surrounding her entry into the league. Having showcased her skills at the Paris Olympics and with her impressive stats in the French league, she is gaining significant attention from scouts and fans alike.

Malonga’s dynamic playstyle includes a combination of agility and strength, making her a formidable presence in the paint. Her ability to score and rebound is supported by an exceptional understanding of the game, which places her at the forefront of several teams’ draft considerations. As it stands, she is projected to be selected with the No. 5 pick, primarily by Golden State, who are keen to build a competitive roster.

The Valkyries find themselves in a unique position entering their inaugural season, balancing the need for immediate impact players while also looking toward the future. Malonga’s addition could provide them with a foundational player around whom they can develop their team strategy for years to come.

Golden State may go with Malong in the upcoming 2025 WNBA draft. This is detailed more in an analysis by Michael Voepel for ESPN.

Malonga, who played for France in the Olympics last summer, seems to have a high ceiling. There have been comparisons made to New York’s Jonquel Jones, who was the WNBA Finals MVP last season and won the regular-season MVP with Connecticut in 2021. That’s a lot of expectation to put on a teenager, so we will wait a while to see how apt the comparisons are. The Valkyries’ first free agency didn’t go as they hoped for in February, and it might be tough for them to compete in their inaugural season. But perhaps they will draft a promising player like Malonga and get her some WNBA experience as they are establishing the franchise.

Fans and analysts alike are buzzing with enthusiasm, claiming Malonga could become one of the league’s brightest stars. Her imminent arrival signals a shift in the league, where international talent is increasingly recognized and celebrated.

As the 2025 draft approaches, all eyes will be on Dominique Malonga and her journey into the league. Whether she will live up to the sky-high expectations remains to be seen, but her potential is undeniable, and excitement about her future in the league continues to build.
