Entering the 2025-26 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors are listed as the second-oldest team in the entire league. According to a Reddit post, the Los Angeles Clippers take home the title for the oldest team in the association. After Golden State acquired Al Horford, the team officially became one of the oldest teams. The five-time All-Star turned 39 in June and was signed to a two-year, $11.7 million deal in September.

Despite the age, the organization still expects to contend for the NBA title. Finding a balance to keep the experienced players healthy may be difficult for Golden State. They still want to be mentioned as one of the association’s competitive teams while doing this.

Aside from Horford, most of the core players on the Warriors are past 35. Steph Curry is 37 and will turn 38 in March 2026. Jimmy Butler just turned 36 last month, and Draymond Green will turn 36 in March.

Ahead of the new campaign, there were questions for head coach Steve Kerr about how he’ll manage the minutes of the veteran players. Especially regarding Horford, who’s the oldest player on the roster. According to Kerr, he’ll take a similar approach to what Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla did last season.

“He looks great in camp,” Kerr said. “He’s still got it for sure. I think the big question is how many games does he play. I talked to him the other day, last year, he didn’t play back-to-backs. Joe [Mazzulla] would keep him out of certain games, on a whim, maybe during a hectic part of the schedule or the other team has a bunch of guys out.

He also had high praise for Horford, who left a good impression in training camp.

“We’ll do the same thing. We have to preserve our older guys as best as we can and have them ready for the playoffs. That’s the idea, but no question, he’s still got it. He’s an incredible player and a great fit for us.”

How did Horford perform in his first preseason game for the Warriors?

On Sunday, the Warriors had their first preseason game. The team had a 111-103 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, and Moses Moody led the way with 19 points. Horford also played excellently for the team, especially on the defensive end.

The big man finished with only three points on 33.3% shooting from the field. However, he established himself as one of the main defensive enforcers of the team with his three blocks and one steal.

Horford showed early in the year that his experience will play an essential role for Golden State ahead of the new year.
