ESPN’s Shams Charania confirmed on Wednesday that the Golden State Warriors are finalizing a deal to acquire Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. The Warriors gave up Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson and a protected first-round pick to the Heat. In addition, the Detroit Pistons will receive Lindy Waters III from Golden State and Josh Richardson from Miami.

Charania further explained that the deal involves the Utah Jazz. The Jazz will reportedly acquire the German point guard. Initially, the Toronto Raptors were involved in absorbing Kyle Anderson. However, Charania reported that the deal with the Raptors fell through. The NBA Insider reported that Anderson could be moved or kept. Veteran forward PJ Tucker also gets reunited with the Heat as Utah sends him to Miami as part of the deal.

Butler has asked to be traded from Miami since January. He named the Phoenix Suns as his preferred destination. Talks with the Suns were rampant since the six-time All-Star requested a trade. One of the players Phoenix was open to include in the potential trade was Bradley Beal. However, Beal’s no-trade clause made it impossible for him to be part of the deal and the Heat reportedly didn’t want to absorb his $50 million contract.

This trade ends Butler’s six-year stay with the Heat. The All-Star forward led the team to two Finals appearances, the first time they reached the final round of the postseason since LeBron James left in 2014. The defensive forward averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.7 assists on 49.8% shooting from the field.

With the Warriors, Butler has created a new Big 3 with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

Before Jimmy Butler was linked to the Warriors, he dealt with punishment from the Heat. After making his request to the front office, he was suspended for seven games due to “conduct detrimental to the team.” Following that, he returned and played three games for Miami, before he was suspended again. His second suspension was for two games because he missed the team flight to Milwaukee.

After his two-game ban, he was expected to rejoin the starting lineup, but he skipped practice when he discovered that Haywood Highsmith was commencing in his place. The Heat suspended the All-Star indefinitely.

Green’s actions sent a warning before he was traded to the Warriors regarding his saga with the Heat organization. The four-time champion talked about it during the latest episode of “The Draymond Green Show.”

“I’m a fan of basketball, so a lot of these things I look at through a fan lens,” Green said (1:10:51). “This one in particular, when I saw this, I was just like, ‘Man, Jimmy’s got to be really careful.’ Because you continue to lessen the amount of teams that would be willing to take you on.

“At some point, Pat [Riley] may just say ‘I’m sending you to Toronto’ or something like that. So when I saw that, I was like, ‘Man, Jimmy’s got to be really careful’… It can get real tricky, like, you could end up without a market.”
