Warriors Could Lose Jonathan Kuminga as 1 West Team Amplifies Pitch to Snatch Him from Dubs By Offering Him Important Role

Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga still won’t arrive on the same page as Shams Charania reported that the latter rejected their $72 million offer that will keep him in the team for three more years.

The main issue for Kuminga, according to reporters, is he wants more control on his contract as the $72 million comes with a team option in the last season. He also wants to be featured more prominently in the line-up.

If the Warriors can’t give him that, another team is very much willing to do it.

Reports claimed Sacramento Kings are trying to swoop in and are trying to attract Kuminga by offering him a starring role in their team.

“Kuminga doesn’t have a good relationship with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, sources said. The Kings told Kuminga they view him as an All-Star forward who will receive a high usage rate under head coach Doug Christie, sources said. That was music to Kuminga’s ears,” Dallas Hoops Journal wrote.

The report added that Kings tried to offer Malik Monk for him. However, the Warriors are just not interested.

Kuminga will become a free agent in the 2025-26 season.

Jonathan Kuminga believes he can an All-Star

Kuminga is only 22 years old and came to the league as one of the most heralded rookies in 2021. He was a seventh overall pick with huge upside but then many believes that his growth is being thwarted in the Warriors.

Some of his batchmates already made it to the All-Star Game, including those who were picked lower than him.

Belief is something he is not lacking and according to a report by Shams Charania, Kuminga believes he can be an All-Star level guy.

But Kuminga has stated a belief that he has multitime All-Star potential. He has lined up loss of value insurance to protect himself in the event he signs the qualifying offer. He’s intrigued by the possibility of unrestricted free agency next summer, sources said, when at least 10 teams are set to have real cap space.

If he and Golden State fail to find a common ground, there’s a chance the team will lose him for nothing.
