Gilbert Arenas believes the Washington Wizards are one of the biggest winners this trade deadline after the team managed to acquire Trae Young and Anthony Davis in the past few weeks.
After sending Corey Kispert and CJ McCollum for Young last month, the Washington Wizards acquired Davis and guards Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell, and Dante Exum from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-rounders, and three second-rounders.
“It’s a great trade for what they trying to do. They have two bona fide Hall of Famers,” Arenas said on his podcast. “They got a young big man (Alex Sarr) that looks like he was the best pick and should have been the number 1 draft pick. He plays the 5, Anthony Davis plays the 4. They both can play inside and outside they both play defense.”
“Now, pick and roll with Trae Young is going to be off the chain. Then whatever they pick in the draft, most likely they will have 7,8,9, or 10… Get Alijah (Arenas) at the 2 in the draft. I’m a fan of AD there,” he added.

Washington Wizards’ plans for the rest of the 2025-26 NBA season remain unchanged, claims insider
According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, the Washington Wizards aren’t expected to play Trae Young and Anthony Davis together much this season, as both stars are still recovering from their respective injuries.
“For Washington, the expectation among sources is that Davis and Young will play very little, if at all, the remainder of the season as the Wizards chase lottery luck, and that both stars will get long-term deals this summer. What those look like, and how they impact Washington’s books going forward, will also play a part in the ultimate outlook of these trades,” Bontemps wrote.
With a 13-36 record, the Washington Wizards are the second-worst team in the Eastern Conference, so they’re incentivized to lose more games to get another top lottery pick this summer.
