Future Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony recently revealed he wants to own an NBA team someday, and he’s eyeing to do so with the Washington Wizards.

Speaking on an episode of the 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony podcast, the former 10-time NBA All-Star believes he has the tools to become a successful NBA team owner.
“I’m a former player,” Anthony explained. “I understand players, I understand personnel, I understand strategy, I understand being strategic, I understand how to build teams. But I also understand what I don’t understand. I know what I don’t know. So with that, you also have to put people in those positions in every position.”

“You put all the basketball acumen in those positions, and then you cover that with business minds. So now you create these levels. The business minds can never question the basketball minds, but it has to be a connection between the two,” he continued. “So with that, you put those people in play. Now, equity comes in because now you got to create these experiences, fan experiences. A lot of owners don’t put that work in, to create fan experience. They hire somebody.”
Can Carmelo Anthony own the Washington Wizards?
Eben Novy-Williams and Scott Soshnick from Sportico reported last January that Laurene Powell Jobs was looking to sell about 10 percent of her stake in Monumental Sports & Entertainment, parent company of the NBA’s Washington Wizards and NHL’s Washington Capitals.

Anthony could theoretically buy her stake, which would make him a minority owner. Meanwhile, Ted Leonsis remains the majority owner of the team and has shown no indication to sell the team.
