Washington Wizards guard Trae Young raised eyebrows when he had a Freudian slip about the team planning to retire John Wall’s jersey during his introductory press conference.
Wall was asked about it during a recent interview with Front Office Sports, and the former Washington Wizards floor general admitted that it would be cool to see his No. 2 jersey in the rafters in the future.
“For me, the Wizards, the organization, they mean everything to me. They gave me an opportunity to reach my full potential playing on the NBA level… If they do my jersey retirement, that would be dope. It’s all up to them if they feel like it’s the right fit for everything,” Wall said.
Wall, 35, currently works for Amazon Prime Video as a resident analyst for its broadcasts and the Washington Wizards for their Monumental Sports Network coverage. The five-time NBA All-Star will be in town on Thursday, when his former team honors him as part of their Celebration Night.

Washington Wizards News: John Wall shares his biggest regret with the team
John Wall admitted that he was not on good terms with the Washington Wizards toward the end of his NBA career, especially when they traded him to the Houston Rockets in 2020. At the time, the former top overall pick faced one injury setback after another, which made his $171 million supermax contract a massive liability.
“One thing I’ve always said about my career was I wish I didn’t fight through some of the little nagging injuries that I had that led to me having bigger injuries,” Wall explained. “But you love the game so much you want to be out there.”
“We both didn’t end on the right terms,” he continued. “I take my responsibility, and I’m maturing and understanding what I did on my part. Them as organization, they have to do what’s best for them and move forward.”
