Washington Wizards center Alex Sarr will no longer play for France in the ongoing FIBA EuroBasket tournament due to an undisclosed calf injury. However, he’s expected to be ready before his mother club’s preseason.

“Although Alex Sarr will miss the remainder of the EuroBasket tournament because of a left calf injury, Wizards officials expect that he’ll be ready for the start of the season, a team source said. The injury will not require surgery,” The Athletic’s Josh Robbins said on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Washington Wizards big man only played in two FIBA EuroBasket matches, averaging 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds on 72.7 percent shooting from the field.

On the other hand, Washington Wizards guard Bilal Coulibaly is still playing for France and has emerged as one of their most impactful players. The former seventh overall pick averages 8.0 points and 4.3 rebounds on 48.2 percent shooting from the field.

While Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly have competed for France in the ongoing EuroBasket, another Washington Wizards teammate has represented his nation well this summer.

Kyshawn George was recently named to the AmeriCup All-Star 5 after guiding Canada to a semifinal run, averaging 13.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 steals on 52/48/79 shooting splits.

“My dad always played for Canada, so it’s kind of my dream as well,” George said in an interview with FIBA Americas. “I think ultimately, it’s about me playing against the best players— with the best players. And I get the chance to learn and be at the highest competition possible.”
