In the latest mock draft, the Washington Wizards are projected to secure the second overall pick, positioning them to make a significant addition to their roster. Among the top prospects, Dylan Harper stands out as a premier guard, showcasing skills that could elevate the Wizards’ backcourt dynamic.

Harper, a 6-foot-6 player from Rutgers, has emerged as the consensus top guard in the 2025 draft class. Known for his ability to excel in high-pressure situations, he has drawn attention with his impressive performances, including a standout game against USC where he contributed 27 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

Washington struggled this season, and adding a player like Harper could transform their fortunes. His elite shot-making and playmaking capabilities would provide Washington with a much-needed scoring threat and a reliable ball-handler, enhancing their offensive strategy. Harper’s ability to create his own shot and finish around the rim makes him a compelling prospect for a team that has been searching for consistent talent in the backcourt.

While Washington currently sits with the second-worst record in the league, acquiring Harper could signal a new direction for the franchise. His high basketball IQ and versatility allow him to operate effectively both as a point guard and shooting guard, providing the Wizards with strategic flexibility. As they look to retool and build for the future, Harper represents a beacon of hope.

If Washington falls down to the second spot, they’re predicted to go for Harper. This is detailed in an analysis by Jonathan Wasserman for Bleacher Report.

A 27-point, eight-rebound, eight-assist line from Dylan Harper against USC wasn’t enough to extend Rutgers’ season. He’ll now enter the draft process as the consensus No. 1 guard option, with teams like the Wizards, Utah Jazz, Charlotte Hornets and Brooklyn Nets likely in the market for another ball-handler.

Harper’s downhill game, elite finishing package, shotmaking production and defensive playmaking have widened the gap between him and the next-best prospect.

The potential synergy between Harper and the rest of the young core in Washington could lead to a rejuvenated team dynamic. His presence would not only drive offensive creativity but also potentially draw in fans looking for a competitive and entertaining basketball team.

With the 2025 NBA Draft on the horizon, the spotlight is firmly on Dylan Harper as a key player to watch. For the Wizards, landing him as their second overall pick could lay the groundwork for a brighter future.
