DiJonai Carrington probably expected nothing more than a few birthday wishes when the WNBA’s official account posted about her on Thursday, January 8. Instead, the comments section turned into a snapshot of how split WNBA fans can be in 2026.
As the league celebrated Carrington’s birthday, fans flooded the post — some offering love, others taking the moment to unload criticism that had nothing to do with the occasion. The back-and-forth escalated quickly, with several comments standing out for all the wrong reasons.
One user went straight for comparisons.
@diaspapa2699 wrote, “They all wannabe Angel Reeses.”

Another questioned why Carrington was even being highlighted.
@SWEATYRUS commented, “Who tf is this. post CC or deactivate.”
Then there was a response that crossed into personal attack territory.
@MarkLavore18767 posted, “You’re nothing but a hood rat! Who has no offense to her game!”

Carrington turned 28 amid all of this noise. While uncertainty still hangs over parts of the 2026 WNBA season, she remains a piece the Minnesota Lynx can lean on moving forward. Her 2025 campaign was split between two teams. She averaged 10.4 points per game in 20 appearances with the Dallas Wings before being dealt midseason. After the move to Minnesota, her role shifted, and her scoring dropped to 8.6 points across 11 games.
“Missing you in Unrivaled”: WNBA fans hoping for DiJonai Carrington’s Unrivaled comeback
Despite the negativity, Carrington wasn’t short on supporters.
Several fans used the birthday post to send encouragement, especially those hoping she’ll resurface in the Unrivaled 3×3 league.

@broussard52 shared a positive message, saying, “Happy Birthday queen! Missing you in Unrivaled.”

Others kept it playful.
@Tytaughtyouu wrote, “She’s a Capricorn !!!!!! I knew I liked her.”
And one fan focused less on basketball and more on her future.
@DiabloDanu added, “Stay put Carrington the world of basketball will be a much better place here in the USA if you just stay put where ya at.”
What was supposed to be a simple birthday shoutout ended up showing both sides of Carrington’s place in the league — polarizing to some, appreciated by others, and still very much part of the conversation whether fans like it or not.
