WNBA fans lit up after Sophie Cunningham revealed her backup plans if league negotiations collapse and a lockout hits.
On Barstool Sports’ Sunday Conversation with Caleb Pressley, the former Indiana Fever guard talked about joining Project B — the new women’s basketball league launching in November 2026 — and what she might do if basketball doesn’t pan out.
Asked about pay, Cunningham admitted, “Barely, but we’re still surviving.” Pressley then tossed in one of his trademark curveballs: “Do you think you even need the leagues, or could you just make money on OnlyFans?”
Cunningham didn’t flinch. “No. I do think you do need the leagues ‘cause that’s what gives you the platforms to have all these fans,” she replied.

It was a straightforward answer, but fans ran with the joke anyway.
@TrapNebula linked it back to her teammate: “She mean *if Caitlin stop paying her.”

@omi_omy4 pointed out contradictions with her faith.
And @CanesFan1994 thought it might actually work: “And she would probably make wayyyy more money doing it.”
Cunningham is currently an unrestricted free agent after finishing her season in Indiana. She’s already committed to Project B alongside stars like Nneka Ogwumike, Kelsey Mitchell, Jonquel Jones, Alyssa Thomas, and Jewell Lloyd.
“A woman jokes about options and suddenly everyone clutches pearls”: WNBA fans defend Sophie Cunningham’s OnlyFans comments
Not everyone bought into the joke. Many defended Cunningham, saying her comments were twisted by captions and wordplay.

@SinghKr56281 noted, “Male athletes joke about podcasts and crypto. A woman jokes about options and suddenly everyone clutches pearls.”

@jrushing21 blasted the coverage: “You didn’t listen to any of it? Just tweet whatever gets you the most attention?”
And @tiffhang cut through the noise: “That’s not what she actually said.”
For Cunningham, the focus remains on her next chapter — whether that’s in Project B or the WNBA. For fans, the moment was another reminder of how quickly a joke can turn into a headline.
