“Reminder: The WNBA Is A Charity That Pays Women To Play Basketball For A Living”: WNBA Fans Throw Opinions After CBA Expired As Reporter Calls Casual Fans For Misunderstanding The League

WNBA fans are reacting to sports-content creator Frank Michael Smith clearing the air on what W hoopers actually want from the league, a day after the CBA expired. Smith called out casual fans of the league for actually not understanding what the players want and need from the league, which is definitely not more money randomly. Fans have been coming up with many of their own explanations of what’s going on between the players and the league.

“The WNBA’s CBA just expired. The big misunderstanding for casual fans is that the players are simply demanding more money. What they are really asking is for a more reasonable revenue split. Right now they receive just 9% of the pie, while other pro leagues sit near 50%. They are requesting 30%, but right now the league is only willing to offer 15%,” Frank Michael Smith tweeted, sharing a video of him explaining the details of the players’ requirements.

“Reminder: The WNBA is a charity that pays women to play basketball for a living,” one fan retorted.

“The issue is the league is already losing money. You increase the share of revenue and the losses will increase. Who will cover the difference? If the losses are too large then the league will fold,” another fan shared.

“I know they want a rev split similar to the NBA…but fixed costs are fixed costs. Stadiums and marketing costs will likely take a higher percentage of the low revenue WNBA pie than the high revenue NBA pie. Lower percentage makes sense if you factor in the fixed costs. These women don’t seem to be fans of economics, and they might lose their league for it.” one more fan said.

WNBA Fans Continue To Call Out Players For Wanting More Money

It looks like a majority of the WNBA fans are on common-ground that the W players are in the wrong for asking for more money from the league. Many fans have been mocking the hoopers for not doing enough research and randomly asking the W for more revenue.

“Well the difference is that those other leagues make money and aren’t only in existence because of another league’s money. But hey you have an agenda to push.” One fan said.

“What’s half of nothing??” one fan asked.

“That’s also called ‘wanting more money.’ Staggering analysis.” Another fan mocked.

Of course, there were numerous fans who said that Caitlin Clark alone deserves plenty more profit from the league, whether other players get it or not. These fans feel that Clark is the white savior of the W and has brought a lot of relevance to it.
