WNBA fans are having a range of reactions to Mark Cuban’s latest tweet about female college hoopers making more money than those in the W. Cuban related that college players need to say ‘no’ to big paychecks if they decide to get into the W.
Cuban also went on to state several negative points about players in the W and many fans have been agreeing with him. Others are calling out the WNBA itself for not doing enough for the players who are earning their livelihoods through them.
“The crazy part, is that no matter what the WNBA does with salaries, every star college player will take a pay cut to play in the WNBA. I asked a few ADs what the going rate is for the star player on a power conference WBB team -$500k to $1.2m. And, you are always a free agent with the portal. You get your room and board paid for. And you can get a good education if you work at it. It’s all subsidized by donors and shared school revenues. Which makes it more similar to Europe, where companies subsidize teams , than to the WNBA. In the NBA, a team can’t go to a sponsor and negotiate a direct payment deal for a player. In college they effectively can with NIL money. When I have written checks to IU, I knew which players were trying to get with the money (although I never tie the money to specific players. It’s up to them)…” Mark Cuban tweeted.

“Sounds like the WNBA is being run by idiots. If they can’t capture the love for Women’s March Madness at the pro level, that’s their problem…not the players…” one fan said.
“bro the jump from college to pro is wild, taking a pay cut to go pro is backwards, that’s how u know college ball is thriving rn,” another fan remarked.
“Is there a true market for the WNBA, where it is not subsidized by the NBA, especially with the salaries the players are expecting? Is it viable?” one more fan asked.
WNBA Fans Continue To Troll WNBA after Mark Cuban’s Remarks
WNBA fans are taking shots at the W for their poor numbers and management, especially after Mark Cuban came forward with his remarks. It seems like many are actually peeved with the league for the way it is handling the players and their futures.

“Let the WNBA fail. Stop subsidizing it. No one is interested in watching it, especially not paying for it.” one fan said.
“They don’t have the ticket sales and TV sponsors because no one cares to watch a bunch of lesbians play below the rim.” Another fan said.
“If the WNBA lowered their rim by 8 inches it would 10x their revenue and streaming numbers,” one more fan said.
The W has been having poor viewership for quite some time but with the entry of incredible players like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Cameron Brink and even Paige Bueckers, there seems to be some hope for a better future for the league.
