After close to two months, Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark is finally getting the hang of playing as a professional in the WNBA. During that time, though, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star has learned big things about her first year in the league.
Recruited as a top-five player nationally, Clark excelled at the collegiate level, establishing herself as one of the greatest players in women’s basketball history.

As a freshman, Clark led the NCAA in scoring and earned All-American honors. In her sophomore season, she became the first woman to lead Division I in both points and assists per game, garnering unanimous first-team All-American recognition. Clark’s junior year was her most dominant, as she was named the national player of the year and guided Iowa to its first national championship game appearance.
Returning for her senior campaign, Clark repeated as the national player of the year, leading in scoring and assists while helping Iowa reach the final round. She finished her college career as the women’s Division I all-time leader in points and three-pointers made.
Clark was selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever. Her exceptional college performance and ability to captivate audiences has ushered in a new era of popularity for the women’s game, coined the “Caitlin Clark effect”.
