Ionescu’s decision to join Unrivaled generated a lot of buzz from fans and critics alike. For her part, the WNBA star shared how she truly felt, as seen in an article written by Doug Feinberg for Associated Press.

“It was a huge decision getting me to play or not,” Ionescu said in a phone interview Monday night. “I weighed out all my options and decided to do what’s best for me and my career. Being able to take part in a league that is the first of its kind with a historic deal and be on the ownership side of it is important for me.”

Ionescu’s partnership with Satou Sabally, her former teammate at Oregon, added another layer of enthusiasm to her decision. The two players had long anticipated the opportunity to collaborate again, and their chemistry was expected to enhance their team’s performance. Ionescu’s leadership and experience would undoubtedly benefit Phantom Basketball Club as they aimed to establish themselves in the league.
