Dave Portnoy didn’t stop at football takes—he also aimed shots at one of WNBA’s current spotlights, Angel Reese. When reports surfaced that Reese had been suspended by the Chicago Sky, Portnoy wasted no time turning it into content.

On X, he posted: “Breaking: Angel Reese suspended by her own team for being an asshole Also breaking: I have been blocked apparently by the Chicago Sky? [double laughing emojis] This league!”

Portnoy has always been a Caitlin Clark fan and is willing to go harder than an attack dog at any opportunity that he smells blood. And Angel Reese’s blood is quite a catch considering that like his favorite, AR has also been racking up attention on social media even for non-basketball things. All the more reason that the Angel Reese brand is big collar.I n this case, he turned Reese’s absence into another chance to highlight how divided the WNBA fanbase has become since Clark entered the league.
Reese and Clark have been at the center of a heated rivalry since college, and their clashes have carried over into the pros. Portnoy has made it clear which side he’s on, and his sarcasm only reinforced that loyalty.
Angel Reese may be taking only the silver when it comes to pushing more views on the WNBA, but with Portnoy riding her coattails, the drama around her name isn’t slowing down.
Angel Reese issues apology after suspension sparks backlash
Angel Reese is not just a highlight name on the court—she’s also under a magnifying glass off of it. After her suspension from the Chicago Sky drew headlines and plenty of online reactions, Reese spoke up to clear the air and own up to what she described as poor word choice.

“I think the language is taken out of context. I really didn’t intentionally mean to put down my teammates, because they’ve been through this with me throughout the whole year… I want to apologize to my teammates, which I have already done, about the article and how it was misconstrued about what was said. And I just have to be better with my language,” Reese explained in her statement.
Her comments came after days of debate about whether she was becoming a distraction. For Reese, the apology was an attempt to reset and to remind fans that her loyalty to her team is not in question.

Angel Reese has built a strong following since her LSU days, and that spotlight only got bigger in the WNBA. The suspension and her words show that her story isn’t just about basketball—it’s about growth, accountability, and how she handles the spotlight.
