Angel Reese didn’t escape much criticism in her second season in the WNBA, and despite her clear improvement in recent days, some haters continue to throw shade on the “Bayou Barbie.” On Tuesday, MLB announcer John Kruk dragged Reese into a totally unrelated situation.

Kruk, Philadelphia Phillies commentator, was initially talking with co-host Tom McCarthy after he greeted his friend Bob Wyskowski’s wife on her birthday. McCarthy then recalled how Wyskowski used to miss shots then. At this point, Kruk didn’t hesitate to mention another figure silently.
“You know, I don’t want to say anything, but there’s someone here in Chicago that does that a lot.,” Kruk said.
“That is true,” McCarthy then replied.
“Well, she gets her points. She gets her rebounds, too. … Ah, we’ll be getting some tweets about that, I’m sure,” Kruk boldly added.

Kruk was undeniably referring to Angel Reese, and his statement garnered huge scrutiny online. Some fans defended him, although it was more of trolling Reese through the usual “mebounds” term, but some were also on the former LSU standout’s side, although the other side bashed them too.
Throughout the season, people pointed out to Reese’s rebounding on often-missed shots, and they couldn’t help but claim that she’s “stat-padding” in order to get high averages. While the claim itself is pure hate, the Chicago Sky star did have shooting struggles early in the season, but many are also missing her steady improvement in the past weeks.

For instance, Reese is on a double-double spree, and after Tuesday’s match against the Washington Mystics, she’s now on her 11th consecutive streak. And to silence haters, she’s also improved on her shooting so far. Excluding the game vs Mystics, where she just returned after a back injury, her efficiency never lowered by 40%, which is high compared to often 35% shooting early in the season.
Angel Reese endures injury as she returns on Tuesday
Angel Reese didn’t play it safe. With Chicago’s playoff runs on the brink of losing, and her back still recovering, Reese made it clear that missing more time wasn’t an option.

“When I am out there, I don’t think about an injury. So, just trying to fight through contact as much as I can and do whatever I can for the team. I was ugly, ugly for me, but I tried to push through as much as I could for my teammates because I know they need me out there,” Reese said during the post-game interview.

Angel Reese knows the team leans on her. And even if the shots aren’t pretty, she’s still bringing effort, edge, and presence every single night.
