Austin Reaves and the Los Angeles Lakers secured their third straight win on Sunday, as they had a 130-120 victory over the Miami Heat. Reaves has kept his impressive momentum with his recent performance. The undrafted guard took over the Lakers during Luka Doncic‘s three-game absence, and averaged 40 points, 5.3 rebounds and 10 assists during that stretch. Even after Doncic returned to the lineup due to injury, the starting shooting guard has been consistently aggressive.
Reaves’ 26 points, four rebounds, and eleven assists were a key factor in the Lakers’ victory. He was the second option to Doncic, who led the team with his first triple-double of the season. The Slovenian star finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists on 40.9% shooting.
During the game, Reaves had a memorable highlight in the first quarter. The Lakers had the fastbreak opportunity, and the 6-foot-5 guard saw Bronny James run down the floor with him and threw him a lob pass. The young guard did not disappoint and finished the transition with a two-handed jam.

After the game, Austin Reaves realized that he made NBA history by being the first player to throw an alley-oop to a father-son duo. James has previously been set up by the shooting guard’s accurate passing on the break.
“I’ve got to be the first person in NBA history that threw a father a lob and a son a lob,” Reaves said. “It’s gotta be, right? While they’re still on the same team.

“It was cool. I told Bron that as soon as I checked out after that. It was a pretty special moment.”
Although there is no proof that it is legitimate, Reaves may be correct given that LeBron and Bronny are the first father-son tandem to play together.
Trash talk has helped Austin Reaves develop chemistry with Luka Doncic

Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic have quickly developed great chemistry on the court. The Lakers’ starting backcourt has learned how to play together in the little time they have spent together on the court. According to head coach JJ Redick, trash-talking each other has helped them develop a connection.
“I think it’s in a really healthy place. I think what they realized early in the preseason, I don’t know if it was the first road trip or the second one that we went on, but they both realized that they both enjoy talking trash a lot,” Redick said. “And their personalities in that regard are very similar, so they can sort of create a little bit of chemistry with each other just by being their natural selves.”
The Lakers have been successful with Reaves and Doncic as their backcourt, which has benefited them amid LeBron James’ absence.
