Caitlin Clark might be out with an injury, but she hasn’t stepped back from the people who matter to her. Right now, that’s her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, who just lost his grandmother.
Over the weekend, McCaffery shared an old photo on Instagram of himself as a kid with the woman he called “mormor,” the Scandinavian word for grandmother. His brother Patrick reposted it, while Connor wrote a raw message about what she meant to their family.

“I’ve been trying to think of what to say and I can’t. It’s impossible to put into words how much you meant to our entire family. I refuse to say goodbye, so until we meet again ❤️❤️❤️🕊️🕊️🕊️,” he wrote.

Clark and McCaffery have been together for two years, going back to their days in Iowa when both were tied to the Hawkeyes basketball program. They’ve been open about backing each other, on and off the floor. This time, with McCaffery dealing with loss, it’s Clark who’ll be the steady presence.
“That’s the hope”: Fever taking careful approach with Caitlin Clark
While she’s standing by Connor, the Fever are still waiting on her return. The team has dropped four of its last five, their playoff chase taking a hit without her on the court. Her comeback would give them a lift, but head coach Stephanie White says health comes first.

“It doesn’t really shift anything with Caitlin,” White said before Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. “The most important thing continues to be that she is 100% when she’s ready to come back. The timing is never ideal, but her long-term health and wellness is the most important thing.”
She added, “That’s the hope. The hope is that she’s back.”
For now, the Fever get a four-day break before facing the Minnesota Lynx in Commissioner’s Cup play, still trying to steady their postseason push.
