Cooper Flagg‘s mother caught the fans’ attention when she retweeted a post about former Dallas Mavericks general manager, Nico Harrison. Before the Mavericks fired Harrison, Flagg’s mother, Kelly, went on X (formerly Twitter), and shared a post about the former executive being a distraction. According to the post, the former front office personnel is a distraction to the rookie forward, since the chant “Fire Nico” is always brought up by fans.

To the original poster’s point, Harrison serves as a distraction to the players since the fans wanted him fired. The post was made by @MavsStan41, who thinks the Mavericks should fire the executive to move forward.

“Cooper Flagg should not have to listen to “Fire Nico” chants when a teammate of his is at the free throw line with the game on the line. Nico Harrison will be a huge distraction and a stain on this franchise until he is fired. Get rid of him as soon as possible so we can all move forward,” the post read.

Mavericks fans saw the retweet, and it quickly went viral.

After the retweet, the Mavericks announced Harrison’s dismissal. Cooper Flagg’s mother then had to clear the air about why she shared the post.

“Retweet wasn’t about firing Nico. It was about the fact that the fans were chanting during our free throws. Our guys had nothing to do with what went down,” Kelly Flagg posted. “It’s done now so we all need to move on. Hopefully better days ahead.”

The Mavericks are now focused on hiring a new general manager. Additionally, there have been rumors that the franchise could explore trading veteran stars and focus on developing Flagg.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had high praise for Cooper Flagg

On Monday, Cooper Flagg had arguably the best game of his young career in the NBA. Against the Milwaukee Bucks, Flagg had 26 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals on 60% shooting. Unfortunately for the No. 1 pick, his career night was spoiled by Giannis Antetokounmpo, who had 30 points, eight rebounds and six assists to lead the Bucks to a 116-114 win.

Following the game, the Greek Freak had nothing but high praise for the former Duke star.

“High IQ, can read plays, can get downhill,” Antetokounmpo said. “For a guy his size to handle the ball and make plays for himself or his teammates, he’s incredible… Cooper having Jason Kidd and his coaching staff, with the talent level he has — being able to make plays for himself, get downhill, get to his spots, create for his teammates — the sky’s the limit.”

The next game for Flagg and the Mavericks will be on Wednesday, against the Phoenix Suns.
