Golden State Warriors used to have the Splash Brothers but with Klay Thompson gone and only Stephen Curry left, they need another person to form that dynamic duo. Hcoach Steve Kerr might have found that guy in De’Anthony Melton who he called a a prototypical shooting guard after his recent successes on the court.

Melton came to the Warriors in 2024 although he was limited to six games due to a torn ACL at the start of the season.
The offense revolves around Curry and to become playable on the team, you need to be a good fit with the greatest shooter of all time. Melton knows that and so, to find his place in the team, he studied Curry’s tendencies.
He specifically studied how Klay moved with Curry on the floor.
“I don’t think I ever thought that them two wouldn’t be on the court together honestly. To see it now, you gotta learn from stuff like that,” he told reporters after their win over the Sacramento Kings on Friday.

“From how well they played together, what made Steph great, what made Klay great, and just try to implement that to your game. I’ve seen a lot of film, minutes of them two together, so just understanding what that takes and the success that it can be.”
De’Anthony Melton past few games
Kerr was previously at a loss in finding a good rotation and starting five, no thanks to injuries and key players. Things have gotten better for them and results are going their way.
Melton is one of those who contribute big time. Kerr made the ‘prototypical SG’ on the veteran in their win over the Bucks wherein he scored 22 points on an efficient 8 out of 12 shooting.

He followed that up with a 19-point performance in dominance of the Kings.
Kerr thinks they found the right combination and gave a special shoutout to the 2018 second rounder.
“They’re setting a good tone when they get out there. They understand that we play through Jimmy,” Kerr said. “Melt does a great job, Al does a great job of getting him the ball, spacing the floor, but also being really aggressive on their own. They’re taking those shots, but they understand: Play through Jimmy first.”
