Dell Curry was a decent basketball player in the NBA and had a 16-year playing career. He was never a star, but he found success as a productive role player, especially for the Charlotte Hornets. Curry was a double-digit scorer and a highly effective player on the court throughout his tenure with the Hornets.
On Wednesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Hornets have decided to retire Curry’s No. 30 jersey on March 19. The father of Stephen Curry is one of the most recognized figures in Charlotte, due to his contributions to the NBA franchise. He spent 10 seasons with the organization and won the 1994 Sixth Man of the Year award by averaging 16.3 points and 3.2 rebounds on 40.2% shooting from downtown in 82 games.
In his 10-year run with the Hornets, he averaged 14.0 points while shooting 40.5% from deep. Curry was also part of the team’s four playoff appearances during the 1990s.

After Charania reported on the Hornets’ decision, fans had mixed reactions to it.

Dell Curry’s legacy with the Hornets
Dell Curry may not be a superstar like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, or even like his son, Stephen Curry. However, he had an impactful career with the Hornets and holds several franchise records. Curry held the top spot for the all-time regular-season scoring record in the franchise for quite some time. He had 9,839 points and the only player who scored more in a Hornets uniform is Kemba Walker, who had 12,009 points.
He is third in most minutes played with 17,613 and fourth in most steals with 747. When it comes to 3-pointers made, Curry is second with 929. Walker is at the top spot with 1,283. The former Sixth Man of the Year is one of the best long-range snipers during the 1990s, even before the 3-point revolution started.
Curry will be the second player in franchise history to have his jersey number retired. He will join former teammate Bobby Phills’ No. 13 in the rafters. The Hornets retired Phills’ jersey in 2000.
