While everyone agreed that it was time for the Dallas Mavericks to let Nico Harrison go, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green didn’t. Most fans have longed for Harrison to be let go by the franchise after he traded star guard Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last season. The chant “Fire Nico” has always filled the American Airlines Center since the former executive pulled the trigger.
On Tuesday, owner Patrick Dumont released a statement, confirming Harrison’s dismissal. This came following the team’s 3-8 start to the season. No one expected Dallas to begin their campaign terribly. The team had the No. pick, Cooper Flagg, and a star big man in Anthony Davis. They also have veteran guard Klay Thompson and one-time All-Star D’Angelo Russell.
However, injuries have played a significant role in the team’s lack of success. Green pointed that out on Tuesday’s episode of “The Draymond Green Show.”

“Y’all just wanna go point the finger at Nico because that was a storyline. Now let’s make that a storyline again,” Green said. “That s**t is whack to me. So, next year, they come back, their full team that Nico intended to be out there, and they have success. Then what?
🏀 Before everyone rewrites the story, remember: the Mavericks never got to see the team Nico Harrison constructed at full strength…

“…The team that he’s constructed to go win a championship hasn’t been on the court. Nobody assumed Kyrie Irving would tear his ACL. [Anthony Davis] started out with the eye, he’s had the injury as of late. The team hasn’t really been out there.
He compared the Indiana Pacers’ situation without Tyrese Haliburton. As he heals from a torn Achilles tendon, the team has only won one of its first 10 games.
Draymond Green warns the Mavericks about putting Cooper Flagg at point guard

The Mavericks have appointed Flagg as their point guard, which isn’t his natural position. In college, the 6-foot-9 star has only been assigned as a small forward. According to Draymond Green, playing him out of position might not be the best for the rookie’s development.
“It’s hard to play in this league when you don’t have a point guard,” Green said. “They’re trying Cooper at point guard, which I understand. You’re allowing him to play with the ball in his hands. He won’t ultimately be a point guard, but you may believe that that can help his development.
“I think Cooper Flagg’s going to be incredible,” he continued. “We’re asking a rookie who’s not a point guard to be a great point guard. And that’s just not how this works. And so, you just got to be careful. It’s not his real position.”
In the first 11 games of Flagg’s season, he’s primarily been the team’s floor general. He has averaged 15 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
