“We would fight and then we’d let loose. And it was our love language. And in us growing up, I realized that I can’t have this,” Govan revealed. “I realized that I will put up with it because I was addicted to him. I was a he was my he was a drug for me. I needed him through my trauma, through my chaos. He was so fulfilling for me.”

Govan and Arenas first met during his time with the Golden State Warriors, and they stayed together for 12 years. An alleged affair between Govan and Shaquille O’Neal sparked relationship problems between the two, and they ultimately called it quits in 2014. A long series of legal battle followed, including that for child support and property division

Gilbert Arenas on Why He Disagrees With Lakers’ Strategy on LeBron James

Gilbert Arenas criticized the Los Angeles Lakers’ handling of LeBron James amid persistent offseason exit rumors, saying team ownership should have been more proactive in keeping the veteran star happy and finding creative ways to compensate him rather than letting uncertainty fester.

Arenas suggested alternative approaches, including structuring deferred or indirect payments tied to long-term investments, and argued that doing so would have preserved roster-building flexibility while respecting LeBron’s stature and business interests.

“If I were the owner, I would have,  I’m just being honest, I would have made a deal with him,” Arenas said. “I would have had him opt out of that 50-something, ask him what he wanted, if he needs some help with trying to start his own league, whatever, right? I know they ain’t got that kind of power like [Steve] Ballmer do, but I would have done something, man.”

Arenas framed his view as one rooted in loyalty and pragmatism, telling listeners he would have negotiated differently if he ran the franchise and lamenting the front office’s apparent unwillingness to make a bold move to secure James.

Throughout his career, Gilbert Arenas had been a three-time NBA All-Star, was named NBA Most Improved Player, and cemented his name with the Washington Wizards when he dropped a career-high 60-point game.
