Heat Forward Andrew Wiggins Gets Honest About Diminishing Role, Names 3 Players Who Can Carry The Team

Andrew Wiggins can score and that’s what he is supposed to bring to the Miami Heat after arriving there in February. His current numbers are not spectacular but he does not have a problem with it. The team are on a three-game winning streak and the offense is clicking and well spread out. They scored 144 points in their last outing in win over the Charlotte Hornets.

The one-time All-Star is confident with his role with the team as he believes he is surrounded by players who are capable of putting the ball to the hoop.

“I’m not the one to force shots…we got Tyler [Herro] who’s a bucket, you got Norm [Powell] who had helluva season last year,” he said.

“We got Bam [Adebayo] who’s another All-Star…I’m in there to do what I can and whatever I can to help the team win.”

Of the three teammates he named, only Herro is yet to play as he is still recovering from an ankle surgery although he has been traveling with them. Herro was the Heat’s top scorer last season and even made his first ever All-Star Game.

Currently, Wiggins is averaging 14.5 points as a starter. He also plays around 29 minutes. His best game so far was against the Hornets when he scored 21 points.

Bam Adebayo explains Andrew Wiggins’ quiet, important role

Wiggins, who the Heat acquired in a huge trade that see them lose Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors, is a silent worker. His numbers may not be as striking as they used to be but for Adebayo, his work not seen on stat sheets is keeping the team intact.

“He’s the quiet one in the starting lineup, but he does the little things that impact winning,” Adebayo said on Tuesday after their dominant win over the Hornets.

“Last two games and in Memphis, his offensive rebounding has been something that has popped up to me, because that’s his way of getting involved, getting his fingerprints on the game. And we love to see a guy like that, who’s the quiet one doing all the dirty work every once in a while.”

Next up for the Heat are the San Antonio Spurs led by MVP frontrunner Victor Wembanyama.
