New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns wants to stay committed to the franchise. Towns is in the second year of his four-year, $220 million contract, which he signed before the Minnesota Timberwolves traded him. Soon, he’ll be due for a contract extension. While there hasn’t been any movement regarding the organization’s interest in keeping him long-term, KAT let the media know that he plans to stay.
Since trading for Towns, the Knicks have started to see success. The big man had one of his best seasons during the 2024-25 campaign, averaging 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He also helped New York reach the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2000.
Given the team’s success with Towns, the star big man explained that he plans to stay longer. The former Kentucky star said that he’s in a great relationship with the Knicks’ front office. This is a good sign since it could help with his new contract.

“Hell yeah, hell yeah. I want to stay here,” Towns said. “Obviously get a chance to be home, see my family. It means more than the money, you know.

“So just to be able to be here with the fans, be with the family. It means a lot. I would like it to continue.”
Towns was eligible to sign a two-year, $150 million contract. However, he couldn’t reach an agreement with the Knicks before the Oct. 20 deadline. The five-time All-Star still has a chance to sign a big deal. If the two parties come to an agreement before or during next season, he could sign a four-year, $260 million contract.
The next opportunity for Karl-Anthony Towns and the Knicks to talk about a new deal will be after the 2026 NBA Finals.
Karl-Anthony Towns is taking the time to adjust to Mike Brown’s system

Karl-Anthony Towns is still looking for ways to make a significant impact with the New York Knicks. Before the start of the season, New York hired Mike Brown as head coach. This led Towns and the other players to learn a new system.
Before their Tuesday game against the Boston Celtics, KAT discussed how he finds himself effective under Brown.
“It’s just a different place I’m in in our system. Totally different system. So when I’m 5 or I’m 4, it’s a totally different script for me in the game,” Towns said. “Trying to impact winning as much as possible and I’m happy I’m able to do that so far this year.”
Towns is averaging 21.7 points, 11.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He’s still looking for himself in Brown’s leadership.
