One moment, Minnesota Timberwolves looked like they are legit contenders. In the next one, they were terrible. What’s wrong with the team? Anthony Edwards and Donte Divincenzo finds it hard to explain.

The Wolves pushed the Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets into overtime during the Christmas Day. Two days before that, they took care of business against the surging New York Knicks of the Eastern Conference.
They then took on the lowly Brooklyn Nets in full force. They should have won it, right? It’s the opposite. They did not just lose. They were badly defeated.
Wolves are currently 20-12 but that record could have been better if only they don’t lose games many thought they are supposed to win. Edwards said he does not know how to change this pattern but things need to change.
Anthony Edwards on what needs to happen for the Wolves to stop dropping games they “should win”

Edwards scored 28 point in the loss while Julius Randle had a 13-11 double double. Wolves failed to stop Cam Thomas who is playing his first game since November 6. The Nets guard put up 30 points off the bench. His scoring supported Michale Porter Jr’s 27.
Minnesota Timberwolves need reflection
Like Edwards, Divincenzo is having a hard time explaining their struggle against weaker teams. He does not want to belittle opponents but he is firm that they are better than what the just showed.
“I truly don’t know, like we can’t have these peaks and valleys, like it’s frustrating,” he said when asked about their confusing identity.
“You give them credit, no disrespect to the opponent but it’s a team we are supposed to come in and handle business, and do what we’re supposed to do… they played with more energy, but that’s the type of team that they are, but they are that.”

He summed it up by saying that they need to some personal reflection.
“We have spurts that that’s what we can do but it’s not necessarily who we are, but that’s who we need to become,” he continued.
“So we can’t get too low on this but we have to address it… we have to hold that, we can’t just go off against OKC then come in against Brooklyn and just get punked. So we have to look ourselves in the mirror.”
Next for the Wolves are the Chicago Bulls on Monday. They will wrap up 2026 with a road trip to the Atlanta Hawks.
