Anthony Davis’ last words with the Los Angeles Lakers management before he got traded to the Dallas Mavericks was about his request for another big man that can aid him in the frontcourt. Not only he did not get it, he was the big man that was sent out.

AD is now gearing up for a full season with the Mavericks and he still believes that he will be more effective if he does not get stuck in the same position.
“My thing was never about the 4 or the 5, it was just about playing the 5 an entire game for the entire season because [the 5] is more wear and tear on your body,” he said.
“I can [and I will] play the 5 at times, but if we’re talking an entire season, I prefer the 4.”

AD was seldom injured before the February trade. His body was spent as the team lacked a big man that they can relieve or pair with him.
Lakers won the title in 2020 when Davis had to transition to the power forward role, thanks to the presence of Javale McGee and Dwight Howard.
Will Anthony Davis get what he wants with Dallas Mavericks?
AD is a sure starting five member of the new look Dallas and good thing for him, there is a chance for him to play at no. 4 most of the time.
The team has Dereck Lively II to fill that position. There were even reports that he got even taller during the summer. Reliever for the 7’3 center is Daniel Gafford who was effective in the position, averaging 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

The team also got quality substitutes for the power forward position as rookie Cooper Flagg can slide into that role. Naji Marshall is also a potential PF choice.
The stage is set for AD to excel in whatever role he wants under Jason Kidd. His only biggest issue will be his availability, something that also applies to his star teammates Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson.
