The New York Knicks couldn’t handle the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, after they suffered a 124-107 defeat. Although star guard Jalen Brunson had 31 points and six assists, it wasn’t enough for the team to get a win over the Paolo Banchero-led team. On top of that, Brunson had to leave the game after he suffered a grade 1 ankle sprain and has been listed as day-to-day.
Against the Magic, the team didn’t have the best start and was down 30-23. Even in the second quarter, the team couldn’t chase Orlando and were outscored, 32-19. At halftime, New York was down as much as 20 points, 62-42. With a 31-29 victory in the third quarter, the squad began to establish a rhythm. In the final quarter, the Florida-based team stayed consistent, which led to the Knickerbockers’ defeat.
Head coach Mike Brown criticized the players’ performance after the game, particularly in the first half.

Brown pointed out that he didn’t like how the Knicks players blamed the officials for the foul calls in the first half. He expressed his disappointment during his postgame interview.
“The thing that I was most disappointed in was in the first half, everything that happened on the court, we blamed the officials,” the head coach said.
“That was disappointing to see because we were the culprits of a lot of stuff that happened out on the floor. Six of their first eight points came from the free-throw line, and we fouled them. I couldn’t even use a challenge because we were fouling.
“If one of our keys is to play physical without fouling, but their first three or four possessions started at the free throw line, then we’re not giving ourselves a chance, and we’re letting them feel comfortable with the way that they play.
In the end, Brown gave credit to the Magic and their coaching staff.
Ian Begley gave a positive update on the Knicks’ star’s injury

Following the Knicks’ loss, Brunson was seen wearing crutches and a walking boot. Ian Begley claims that the star guard only suffered a grade 1 ankle sprain, which is not a catastrophic injury. Although he’s listed as day-to-day, the former Dallas Mavericks guard won’t play in Friday’s game against the Miami Heat.
“Positive outcome for the Knicks and their All Star point guard after further imaging was done on the ankle. Brunson left last night’s game against Orlando late in fourth quarter after turning his ankle. He left the Garden in crutches and a walking boot. Knicks certainly dodged worst-case scenarios here,” Begley reported on Thursday.
