NBA fans were quick to push back after Bleacher Report dropped a ranking that, for many, downplayed just how much Steph Curry has meant to the Golden State Warriors. The site listed Curry as the team’s best second option behind Kevin Durant, a label that didn’t sit right with a big portion of the fanbase — especially considering what Steph had already accomplished before KD ever suited up in blue and gold.
One fan reacted with, “Curry as a second option,” pairing it with a meme asking if the whole thing was just ragebait.

Another pointed out, “KD must feel weird. He definitely was primary on ball scorer but his second option is now ahead of him on most all time lists.”
A third didn’t mince words, saying, “Steph was never the second option to KD, this is blasphemy.”
When Durant made the move to Golden State, it was largely seen as the push he needed to finally break through for a title. Teaming up with Curry paid off instantly, leading to back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018. But once KD left, the trajectories shifted. Durant never again made it close to the Finals, while Steph carried the Warriors to another championship run in 2022, cementing his place in franchise history even further.
NBA fans rally around Curry after another big night
As debates around who was the true “option” in Golden State resurfaced, Curry dropped a performance that felt like its own answer. Before going down with an injury in their matchup against the Houston Rockets, Steph poured in 31 points in a 134-117 win over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.

Fans didn’t hold back their admiration.
One wrote, “Woah! And he’s not even a ball hog!”

Another said, “With the least amount of free throws as well goat.”
A third kept it simple: “GREATEST OF ALL TIME.”
For now, Curry is expected to be re-evaluated a week after the Warriors’ 104-100 loss to Houston, as he deals with a quad contusion and muscle strain. The good news for Golden State is that their top option — regardless of what any list says — isn’t expected to miss extended time.
