Los Angeles Clippers coach Ty Lue finally addressed the decision to release Chris Paul, but his explanation only stirred up more frustration among NBA fans who felt CP3 deserved better on his farewell run.
After the Clippers waived the 12-time All-Star — with reports circulating that Lue and Paul had stopped speaking and clashed over accountability — Lue tried to clear the air. His message, though, didn’t land the way he probably hoped.

“I just think it wasn’t a good fit for what he was looking for. It is what it is. Do I want to see CP go out like this? No. I have a lot of respect for him. He’s been a friend of mine over the years. You never wanna see a great go out like this. But I’m pretty sure he will find something, because he’s a great player. He’s a — you know. I didn’t wanna see it end like this.”

Fans immediately pounced, pointing out how the statement conflicted with the reports about their falling out.
One fan wrote, “calling him a friend after you refused to speak to him is insane lmaoo.”
Another pushed back, “Why are you automatically assuming Chris Paul’s side is true? Also you can be friends but not everyone can handle a friend being a boss.”
A third chimed in, “He was looking to win games and you couldn’t lmao.”
With the Clippers sitting at 6-16, supporters feel the team cut loose the wrong guy. Chris Paul may not be the same player he once was, but many believe his leadership — the thing that reportedly rubbed Lue the wrong way — is exactly what the Clippers needed during their brutal stretch.
“Ty Lue wasn’t on speaking terms with winning either”: NBA fans mock Ty Lue and the Clippers after waiving Chris Paul
While Chris Paul figures out his next stop, fans kept the heat on the Clippers for how the situation unfolded. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, CP3 was “vocal” about holding the coaches, players, and management accountable for the team’s poor results — something the Clippers viewed as disruptive. Lue and Paul reportedly hadn’t spoken for weeks before the decision was made.

One fan said, “Reportedly Ty Lue wasn’t on speaking terms with winning either.”
Another added, “A vet and franchise legend holds you accountable for being a disappointment and they boot you. Jokes write themselves LMAO.”
A third commented, “Paul would be a way better coach than Lue.”
As CP3 looks for a landing spot to finish his final season the right way, fans are hoping he gets the kind of send-off his career warrants — even if it doesn’t come from the franchise he once helped put back on the map.
