Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young left the floor on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets. Young exited the game in the first quarter, and the Hawks confirmed that he would not return to the action. According to the team, the four-time All-Star suffered a sprained ankle after a collision with his teammate, Mouhamed Gueye. NBA insider Marc Stein reported on the update on the star guard.
Young and the Hawks are coming off a 128-123 loss against the Chicago Bulls on Monday. The franchise star was on the floor for 34 minutes and had 21 points, three rebounds and 17 assists on 31.8% shooting from the field. Atlanta has struggled to get wins early in the 2025-26 season. The Eastern Conference team is 1-3 to start the year and is ninth in the standings.

Now that they lost Young to an injury, there’s a question about how well the team will perform while the one-time All-NBA star is sidelined. Furthermore, the Hawks have not provided any information on how long the 6-foot-1 will be out due to his latest setback. The point guard had six points, a rebound and an assist before he left the game.

Amid his injury, Trae Young is off to a slow start to his eighth season in the NBA. In the first four games of the year, he’s averaging 20.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 9.5 assists. Without their best player, the Hawks could find it difficult to get more wins this season.
NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that Young will undergo an MRI tomorrow. This could determine the severity of his knee injury and put a potential timeline on his return.
“Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young (sprained right knee) will undergo an MRI tomorrow to determine severity of injury, league sources tell me,” Haynes said.

Trae Young is focused on winning a championship with the Hawks

Before Trae Young’s injury, he appeared as a guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday. During his appearance, Young talked about his relationship with rapper Quavo, who was the one who gave him the nickname “Ice Trae.” The NBA star also expressed his desire to lead the Hawks to a championship while he’s still in his prime.
According to him, winning the Larry O’Brien trophy is the biggest accomplishment he could have had in the league.
“Obviously the win and loss column is the biggest stat, the most important stat for me. I want to win a championship obviously,” said Young. “That’s every player’s dream.”
The Atlanta franchise wants to help him achieve that goal. Over the summer, the Hawks signed productive players in Kristaps Porzingis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard. The team hopes that the new players will help Young and the club battle fiercely in the East.
