“They’re Capable” – Oklahoma City Thunder Could Achieve Record-Breaking Season, Draymond Green Says

The Oklahoma City Thunder has been on fire since the 2025-26 NBA season started. OKC has a 21-1 record and sits atop the Western Conference. The team is proving why they were crowned as champions last season. Given how well they’ve played, they have a chance to set a record-breaking season and replicate the Golden State Warriors‘ success in 2016.

During the 2015-16 season, the Warriors were coming off a championship win. They did not hold back and won 73 games, breaking the 72-10 record held by the Chicago Bulls set in the 1995-96 season. The only flaw the Warriors had that year was losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.

Draymond Green, a member of that record-breaking team, thinks OKC is “capable” of replicating their success.

The Warriors star was asked about the Thunder’s ceiling this season on Tuesday.

“I do think they’re capable,” Green said. “You just need so many things to go right, though. From health … although they kind of plow right through health issues so it don’t matter, it seems. You need a lot of breaks to go your way, but they’re on the right track.

Draymond Green always speaks his mind (even when it’s uncomfortable) and this time was no different 💯

He admitted that OKC is on a trajectory that could surpass Golden State’s 73-9 season 👀

“I think 73 wins took some years off my life. But like I said, they’re capable of a lot.”

OKC has a target on its back, being the reigning NBA champions. However, they appear to be ready to take on any challenge.

Thunder’s Jalen Williams says the team is “emulating” what the Warriors did

The Thunder is coming off a 124-112 win over the Warriors on Tuesday. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took charge of the game with his 38 points, three rebounds and four assists. Jalen Williams, who appeared in his third game of the regular season, added 22 points on 56.3% from the field.

Following the game, Williams praised his team’s performance and contrasted it with the Warriors’ historical performance.

“The only thing that’s crazy to me is that you grow up watching those teams,” Williams said. “Then, years later, you look back, I’m watching them when we were stuck in Santa Cruz for Covid, and just my whole college career, you just watch them, and now, we’re kind of emulating something that they were doing. It’s really cool. It’s special. Then, we also get to play some of the players that were on that run. So, you never take it for granted.

“Obviously, Dray and Curry — they’re not going to be playing for that much longer. So, it’s cool to get these opportunities to play them. It’s very surreal.”

The young OKC team is showing signs of being a dynasty, which could be a problem for the other 29 teams.
