““This has to be a worst shooting form than Shawn Marions.” – That’s one of the things said about Phoenix Suns 2024 rookie Oso Ighodaro after a clip of him shooting from long range was posted on X.

“Why it looks like it hurts to shoot?” another commenter said.

That video went viral early in November but despite the criticisms, he still managed to carve out a solid rookie year, averaging 4.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per night in 61 games. He also did not take a three point shot last season, probably the reason why that shooting form did not reach further ridicule.

Ighodaro knows though that it should not stay that way. The 7-foot center said on media that fixing his shooting form is long-term project for him.

“For sure. Shooting is a long-term project for me and I spent a lot of time this summer on it to improve it and I think that is going to be something in my long-term career that is going to keep me around in the league eventually,” he told reporters as per Duane Rankin of AZ Central.

“That’s not my number one strength right now, but it’s something I’m continually working on.”

    Phoenix Suns’ big man rotation

Ighodaro is expected to come of the bench again this new season with the Suns acquiring Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets this summer. Williams is a sought-after big man and he became available again after his supposed traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in February failed.

“He’s been with us every day since July 1; his strength gains in the lower body have been off the chart,” general manager Brian Gregory said during media day when asked about Williams.

“His work ethic on a daily basis was off the chart… He’s in a good place right now.”

Williams averaged a double-double of 15.3 ppg and 10.2 rpg last season for the Hornets.

As for Ighodaro, he will still be able to get significant minutes and he might spend some time between the power forward and center role with the Suns still lacking serviceable big man.
