The Sacramento Kings recently confirmed that Keegan Murray is out for the first few games of the 2025-26 campaign due to hand surgery. The fourth-year pro sustained the injury during a preseason loss to the Portland Trail Blazers last Friday.

“We feel for him more so than anything,” DeMar DeRozan said about Murray via Sactown Sports 1140. “Feel for Keegan because, you know, that’s our brother, our teammate. We don’t want to see nobody hurt. But with that, we still got a job to do. We can’t hang our heads too long.”
“And you can’t always expect the NBA season to go perfect. Knock on wood, I hope this is all to come and, you know, he get back healthy and we can hold down the fort until then,” he added.

The injury couldn’t have come at a more crucial time for Murray, as he is eligible for a contract extension before the October 20 deadline. The 25-year-old will hit restricted free agency next summer if he and the Sacramento Kings can’t agree to a new deal.
Sacramento Kings News: Doug Christie reacts to Keegan Murray’s injury
Losing Keegan Murray is a blow to the Sacramento Kings because he has been one of their most dependable players in the past few years. According to head coach Doug Christie, replacing Murray will be done via committee.

“I think that you get a look at our roster you can kind of get some ideas,” Christie told Sean Cunningham of KCRA News. “There’s smaller size, there’s bigger size, there’s defense, there’s rebounding. And we’ll see where we’re at when it’s all said and done.”
“It’s tough, because Keegan has size, strength, athleticism, and he shoots 40%. I think everyone is looking for that,” he continued. “We have a couple different guys that can maybe equal Keegan, but we don’t have Keegan. Replacing it is definitely difficult, but guys have other strengths.”
