The Sacramento Kings paid homage to Russell Westbrook during Wednesday’s home game against the Toronto Raptors, as the former league MVP recently passed Oscar Robertson to become the highest-scoring point guard in NBA history.
In the video tribute, Westbrook received messages from his friends, family, and former teammates. After the game, he thanked the Sacramento Kings organization and the fans for the heartwarming gesture.
“I’m just grateful to be able to share this experience with the fans, share it with my teammates… I’m extremely grateful for the Kings organization to be able to put something like that for me,” Westbrook stated via Kevin John of ABC10.
The Sacramento Kings lost 122-109 to the Toronto Raptors, marking their third consecutive defeat. Westbrook was the hosts’ top scorer with 23 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals on 9-for-22 shooting from the field across 35 minutes of action.

Sacramento Kings News: Doug Christie takes accountability for disappointing home loss vs. Toronto Raptors
Sacramento Kings head coach Doug Christie took the blame for the team’s second-half collapse against the Toronto Raptors, where they were outscored 43-21 in the third period to break the game wide open.
“These are the times as a coach, you reflect, and you own up to a lot of it,” Christie told the Sacramento Bee. “In that moment, that’s where, for the team, I have to be better. They’ll say, ‘Nah, coach,’ but we’ve got to make sure we come out, and we are ready to go. If there’s going to be a run, we’ve got to make subs and figure out a way to withstand that because we were playing too well to let a game like this slip away, so I own that.”
“It was a tough third quarter,” Dylan Cardwell added. “That’s a great team. They play fast. They get downhill. As soon as you make a 3, as soon as you make a layup, in four seconds or less, they’re down the court scoring again.”
