San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle fell hard on his back after blocking Rui Hachimura’s dunk attempt in the second quarter and eventually missed the rest of his team’s 136-108 road win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
Castle finished the game with two points and seven assists in 12 minutes of action. The San Antonio Spurs guard will likely miss a game or two, but Victor Wembanyama believes he won’t be out for too long, citing his toughness.
“He’s not a guy we’re used to seeing stay on the ground for that long,” Wembanyama told SI’s Matt Guzman. “Every second that passed, I was a little more worried. But he’s one of the toughest guys I know. I’m pretty confident he’s going to come back quick.”
“His tailbone I’m expecting to be pretty sore,” head coach Mitch Johnson added. “Probably more than pretty sore, but it was good that he walked off and didn’t feel like it was anything else.”

San Antonio Spurs News: Victor Wembanyama drops bold claim after 40-point explosion vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Victor Wembanyama set the tone for the San Antonio Spurs in their blowout win over the Los Angeles Lakers. The towering Frenchman finished with 40 points, 12 rebounds, two steals, and four three-pointers on 13-for-20 shooting from the field and 10-for-12 shooting from the charity stripe in 26 minutes of action. During his postgame presser, he said he could’ve gone for 60 if he wanted to.
“Of course. I know it. But we’ve got to be fresh for tomorrow, make another statement tomorrow. It’s a team game at the end of the day. The real stat that matters is the W or the L,” Wembanyama stated via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
“I was also pushing to go back, but I mean, they did the right thing by keeping me on the bench. We got to think long-term. But yeah, these kind of games, you got to have the greed. I mean, every game you have to have this greed to want more every time, because you know at all times it doesn’t matter who’s on the court, it’s somebody who’s going to want to stop you from doing what you do out there. So you got to be greedy,” he added.
