WNBA fans reacted in outrage as a video recently surfaced that claimed the Phoenix Mercury invited a “genderless” child to watch one of their games.

Over at X, a video went viral that showed what was claimed to be a seven-year-old “genderless” child that the Phoenix Mercury allegedly invited over to watch one of their recent games. Among many comments from WNBA fans, one stood out that called back to the words of tech mogul and billionaire Elon Musk.

“Elon Musk is right,” they said.

🔥🚨BREAKING: ‘This has gone too far,’ WNBA Phoenix Mercury team invited a 7-year-old ‘genderless’ child which appears to be a boy in makeup dressed as a little girl on the court to dance and perform during the halftime show.

Back in 2023, Musk posted on X in response to news about parents submitting their children for gender-affirming procedures. In his post, Musk reiterated his stance that children should not be subjected to such procedures, much less if it was initiated by the parents.

“Any parent or doctor who sterilizes a child before they are a consenting adult should go to prison for life,” he said.

Musk said the comment to underscore his view that permanent medical procedures on minors carry grave moral and legal consequences, framing the statement as a call for strict accountability for caregivers and clinicians who he believed were enabling such treatments.

In response to Musk’s post, independent fact checker Tom Fitton echoed the sentiment and reiterated the gravity of such medical procedures.

“No patient (child/guardian or adult) can truly give informed consent to radical mutilating procedures and experimental hormone treatments promoted by transgender extremists,” Fitton posted. “That these procedures may be allowed by law or medical bodies is an urgent failure that must be addressed.”

The WNBA, as a whole, has been openly supportive of broader inclusion for transgender athletes as well as transgenderism in all age groups. They have had special events, such as the “Transgender Day of Visibility,” to support this advocacy.

WNBA Fans React to Mercury “Inviting” a “Genderless” Child

Overt at X, WNBA fans reacted and gave their insights on the supposed invitation from the Phoenix Mercury for what was claimed to be a “genderless” child.

“Phoenix Mercury letting a 7-year-old perform as ‘genderless’ sparks debate,” one fan said, “proof that halftime shows now double as social experiments. Legal? Sure. Common sense? That’s still loading.”

“Just a few years ago, that much makeup on any child that young would have been considered outrageous,” said another. “Now, little boys are dancing on stage in skirts.”

While the full picture of the news remains a question, it’s clear that WNBA fans may have mixed reactions on the topic of transgender inclusion in the league.
