WNBA fans recently explored the idea of players from the women’s league starring in their own “Starting 5” season, with several big names floated in one social media post.

Over at X, WNBA fans were given a hypothetical “Starting 5” season, which would feature players from the WNBA. The fan cast included Napheesa Collier, A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, and Angel Reese.

Fans supported the idea, but some would rather see a different kind of “inside look” show with WNBA players.

“I want to see The Realhousewives of the WNBA and it shows me their lives on the off season,” one fan said.

If everyone puts their bias aside, these are the exact 5 that should be picked

Netflix’s “Starting 5” is a behind-the-scenes sports documentary series that follows five NBA superstars through a full season, pairing game coverage with access to players’ personal lives and locker-room moments, and it premiered at the opening of the 2024–25 NBA calendar on Netflix’s Tudum platform. The second season gave the spotlight to stars Jaylen Brown, Kevin Durant, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tyrese Haliburton, and James Harden.

The show’s second season traced storylines that include injuries, trade speculation, playoff runs, and the Oklahoma City Thunder’s championship push while weaving candid conversations with coaches and teammates into each episode.

Critics and viewers have flagged Season 2 for its intimate access and narrative peaks, particularly scenes that document Haliburton’s injury and Durant’s injury, as well as trade rumors. At the same time, commentators praised its ability to humanize stars even as some coaches and front offices grumbled about the crew’s omnipresence.

WNBA Fans Discuss a Potential “Starter 5” Edition

WNBA fans over at X discussed their insights on a possible “Starter 5” season that would feature the women of the league, and which top five names should make the season. For some, the proposed names are already good enough.

For one, however, Caitlin Clark should be replaced by any other name.

“All the above, with the exception of Caitlin Clark,” they said. “There are far better PGs in the W than her. Chelsea Gray, for starters.”

For others, however, they’d rather have a mix of big shots and rising stars rather than squeeze in all the big names in just one season.

“Too much star power in a single season,” they said. “Add some variety. I think you throw in a role player and a second/third option instead. Dijonnai and maybe McBride. Save Buckets and Aja for the next year.”

As the league enters its offseason, WNBA fans are looking forward to team and player updates, with franchises expected to make offseason moves anytime soon.
