WNBA fans recently had their tie as Fever star Caitlin Clark cheered for the Chicago Cubs, who eventually missed their spot at the MLB playoffs.

In a post on X, Caitlin Clark expressed her screaming cheer for the Cubs as they played a decisive Game 5 against the Milwaukee Brewers. WNBA fans, on the other hand, saw it as an opportunity to express their humor.

The cubs are joining the WNBA? Fitting.

Caitlin Clark turned to Twitter to express solidarity for the Chicago Cubs after the team was knocked out of the postseason, a perfect segue to reveal her off season plans to stay active in the sports world. This was her way of expressing that she is willing to travel to Chicago to catch a Cubs game after a frustrating year of injuries and perhaps stating that she will be returning to the sports world in some capacity.

Although Clark did not compete in many games this season, there is no denying that the Fever are back in the semifinals of the WNBA playoffs for the first time in five years and with one more win would have had a chance to contend for a championship. Their run this season broke more than just a consecutive championship appearance in the playoffs. Their play this postseason also showed the depth and competitiveness that is now a regular part of the Fever’s roster, even if Clark didn’t play regularly.

Caitlin’s social media support for the Cubs leans into a narrative that she and Angel have had since their amateur days as junior college players – this was part of Angel’s opposing biography, and another layer of Clark’s growing national presence as she asserts herself on the court.

Over at X, WNBA had fun playing around with Caitlin Clark’s open and vocal support for the Cubs, despite them dropping out of the playoffs and ending their season.

One fan was simply sorry for Clark losing out on her support. They said:

    “Sorry, Caitlin… Maybe next year.”

One fan, in a funny way, joked about Chicago Sky star Angel Reese now being forced to like another team, as Clark already “locked in” on the Cubs.

    They said:

“Angel Reese forced to root for the Brewers now.”

Another, meanwhile, saw the post as an opportunity to throw shade towards the WNBA, for how fans perceived it has been towards the Fever star.

    They said:

“All other sports  love Caitlin on both sides, but the WNBA doesn’t.”

As the league goes to the offseason, WNBA fans are looking forward to players’ updates and franchise moves coming the next season.
