Karl-Anthony Towns and the New York Knicks have not been at their best since the New Year. In 2026, the Knicks have only won twice out of the 10 games they’ve played. On Monday, the team suffered a 114-97 loss to the short-handed Dallas Mavericks. New York had a complete group, but still lost against Jalen Brunson’s former team.
Following their loss on Monday, the Knicks have now lost four straight games. In January, the team has struggled on both ends of the floor. The group’s performance has left fans dissatisfied.
Their Monday loss led Steve Popper of Newsday to reveal that the front office has discussed potential trades involving Towns.

Popper reported that the Knicks have talked to three teams about a potential deal for Karl-Anthony Towns.
“Whispers around the league have begun to speculate on the possibility of the Knicks moving Towns,” Popper wrote. “His name surfaced when the Bucks and Knicks discussed the chance of a deal involving Giannis Antetokounmpo, but now league sources said that talks have involved other teams, including Memphis, Orlando and Charlotte.”
KAT has not performed well in his second season with the Knicks. Through 39 games, he’s averaged 20.9 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists.
Kendrick Perkins’ bold talk about Karl-Anthony Towns
Amid the Knicks’ ongoing struggles, the attention has mostly been on Karl-Anthony Towns. He has struggled to fit into coach Mike Brown’s system, which explains his dip in scoring. Amid the trade noise about KAR, former NBA star Kendrick Perkins said that the big man is safe from a potential deal.
“They’re not gonna move him because the loyalty runs too deep,” said Perkins.
“Karl-Anthony Towns is the most important piece on the New York Knicks for sure,” Perk added. “He’s not their best player, but he’s the most important thing if they’re trying to get to the NBA Finals.”
The Feb. 5 trade deadline is near, and Knicks fans await the organization’s move regarding Towns.
