Jalen Suggs was ejected in the second quarter of the NBA Cup match between the Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers for sticking up for his teammate.

Before he received his marching orders, Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. got into a scuffle with Philadelphia 76ers’ Andre Drummond. As Drummond squared up on Carter, Suggs ran into the court to push him and confronted Jabari Walker.
“Really just sticking up for my guy Dell. Thought Jabari Walker did exactly what he was supposed to do – stick up for his guy,” Suggs told the Orlando Sentinel’s Jason Beede. “Basketball’s an emotional game… It’s nothing more than that.”

“Ten times out of 10. We’re going to talk smack, be physical; it’s the nature of the game. (I will) stick up for my brother every time. I’ll take the fine,” he continued. “Don’t think I should’ve gotten ejected, but we take it.”

The Orlando Magic eventually won 144-103 against the Philadelphia 76ers despite being without Jalen Suggs for the rest of the game, as Anthony Black came off the bench and dropped 31 points, three assists, and four three-pointers on 12-for-17 shooting from the field in 28 minutes.

“AB was elite. It was beautiful. Seeing his growth and his progression, honestly, for me has been self-fulfilling,” Suggs said of Black. “Since the moment he has come into this league, he’s been like my little brother.”
“I love that, on a national stage with everybody watching, that everyone got to see the work he’s been putting in, so shoutout AB. Very inspirational night from Anthony James Black,” he ended.
